Startup Series, Deepshikha Kumar, SpeakIn – Part 1

The Story:

Learn from the successful entrepreneurial journey of Deepshikha Kumar Anand, Co-Founder of SpeakIn about the mistakes startups tend to make initially and how to avoid them.

Minute 0:42

Deepshikha talks about her inspiration behind SpeakIn. Back in 2007, when Deepshikha graduated from ISB Hyderabad, it was her co-founder who inspired the inception of SpeakIn. Deepshikha did not believe that SpeakIn could work in the early days as it had too many moving parts.

DR Pro Tip: We have interacted with many founders who change their business model along the way. Pivoting at the right time is also important.

Minute 3:28

Dialogue Room Moment: Deepshikha, speaks about the importance of will & skill in a person. “There are only 2 dimensions to a person – will and skill. Skill can be taught, will can’t.”

Minute 7:32

Hate Monday meetings? Deepshikha stresses the importance of ‘old-school’ Monday meetings to structure your week.

DR Pro Tip: Before your meetings, ensure each attendee has his own agenda to discuss. Assign each task to a designated person and with a completion date in mind. Circulate this document post the meeting.

Dialogue Room questions discussed in the video:

  • What was the inspiration behind SpeakIn?
  • What were the things that went haphazard in the beginning?
  • What was your push to keep on going?
  • Is there anything you would have changed in the early days?
